Team Members Wanted!

...Can you imagine the job spec? Must have great communication skills, the ability to laugh at themselves, never blow a fuse or have a bad day. Must be prepared to support others to achieve mutual goals, even when they don’t pull their weight. Must enjoy being the subject of Chinese Whispers and the resulting emotional turmoil whilst still remaining focused and driven towards achievement.

For the second in my series of guest blogs from no-box-thinkers, I am delighted to be joined by Tim Mugabi, founder of IntoThatDress.com  Tim is a Personal Trainer who seriously inspires me. He has a fresh approach and this, along with his positive and progressive thinking, influence how he approaches every challenge for himself and his clients.

I’m an entrepreneur not an age-group!

This is the first of my series of blogs by no-box-thinkers. I have invited someone, each month, to write on a topic where they demonstrate that there are no limits – only those we impose ourselves.

You can give time, you cannot make it

“Make time for yourself”.  How often do we hear these words? Wise words they may be, and often we need to hear them.  However, they are misleading and as ever, because the language is not right, I do not believe we take them on-board.  Nobody can “make time” for themselves or anybody else.  They can choose to give time.  They can decide that something or someone deserves their time and give a certain amount of it.

What’s your excuse?

As we rapidly approach the end of another year and start winding down for the festivities, many of us will reflect on the past 12 months; some with more satisfaction than others.

Learn It Until You Earn It

"Fake it 'till you make it!" – the speaker on the training course was adamant this was a vital part of being successful. Portraying success would attract success. The very first time I heard it, I hated it! Strong words – I don't have much that I hate in my life. This expression is one of those things.

Trailblazer On Astro-turf

I have been fascinated and engaged by the BBC2 programme “Peter Jones – How we made our millions” and this week the marked difference in the entrepreneurs was a huge eye-opener to me.  Michelle Moneand Richard Reed were polar opposites; one an obsessive compulsive the other a rebel with no rules.  Both have achieved enormous financial success and worked hard for it.  Both are successful entrepreneurs.

I received an email from a potential new client this morning, which said: "Thank you so much for following up so quickly. I'm impressed! You really do what you talk about!!"
It can feel like a big ask: "When you become part of my network I expect you to talk about me with your contacts and make connections that will help my business. " Indeed, I'm not sure that we are ever that direct about our intentions with our close contacts – perhaps we should be! It would certainly result in more expectations being met and fewer misunderstandings.
