Sir Richard had realised that the benefits of being active extend far beyond weight loss and increasing your fitness. Regular activity makes you more energetic, enabling to achieve more in shorter amounts of time. When you’re energetic, you feel better, and when you feel better, you do better.
Regular activity is also great for your brain. Firstly, the fitter you are, the more oxygen is available to your brain. This allows you to think more clearly, and boosts your ability to make decisions and solve problems. And secondly, regular activity is a great stress reliever. Diminish your stress and you’ll be better able to concentrate on the task at hand.
So following on from Jayne’s blog on adding minutes to your day, here are a couple short and easy ways to add activity to your day and gain minutes through increased activity.
- Walk up the stairs and escalators
- A relatively small thing, but over time, this has a big effect.
- A brisker walk with the dog
- If you have a dog, walk a little faster than you normally would. Treat it for exercise for you as well as your dog. And your dog will be grateful too
- Get up from your desk
- When your concentration starts to wane, get up from your desk and take a walk outside your building. The walk will energise you and you’ll return to whatever you were doing with renewed vigour.
- Get yourself outside and do w.w.j.s
- Do some winter garden maintenance
- Doing some housework is a great way to get some physical activity in, after all it’s not called house ‘work’ for nothing! A great way to kill two birds with one stone is to pick a task you’ve been putting off for a while. This could be a small bit of decorating or sorting through the garage. That way, you’re able to tick something off your list and be active
Give one or two of my suggestions a try and you’ll be more productive in no time. And while everyone else is asking where the time has gone, you’ll be wondering where all the time has been!
