I've already been asked by one journalist what I think about the government's announcement that it will reduce the need for SMEs to waste time and money on unnecessary health and safety inspections, but I have to say the above words from new business minister, Michael Fallon, made me think my birthday must have come early this year.
It's not often a single sentence uttered from the mouth of a politician exactly matches what is in your head, but Mr Fallon's definite statement that there WILL be changes made this week because he wants to deal with the 'burdensome nature of hiring and firing people', is exactly what we need, and matches what we have been asking for, for years.
The ability to fire will make it easier to hire people, and with the fear of making an expensive mistake out of the way this move will enhance businesses and the economy. I can't wait to hear what they have to say!
The scrapping or changing of 3,000 regulations in the health and safety area is also nothing but good news. Originally this area of industrial law protected workers, but as it has swollen it has become a bloated area of confusion which only benefits the masses of bureaucrats who 'administer' it.
