As the Technology Strategy Board published a directory of Trusted Services research and development projects (Trusted Services Directory), Minister for the Cabinet Office, Francis Maude, announced that the government’s Identity Assurance programme would receive an extra £10 million in funding (Identity Assurance).

Francis Maude made the announcement at the 'Ensuring Trusted Services with the new Identity Assurance Programme' event, organised by the Technology Strategy Board with the Cabinet Office, on 31 October 2011. Speaking to heads of leading UK technology firms and to public service procurers of identity assurance products and services, the Minister updated them on the Identity Assurance programme and issued a call to action for companies to work with the UK government to develop solutions for the project.

The Technology Strategy Board, together with the Research Councils, is investing more than £14m in innovative research and development projects to develop trusted and trustworthy tools, technologies and methodologies to combat the risks that consumers, businesses and public sector organisations increasingly face during online transactions. The projects will help to accelerate the introduction of more secure and trustworthy information systems and ensure that the privacy and consent of individuals is maintained.

The booklet highlights the activities of many of those projects, all seeking to make our digital transactions more secure and trusted.
