The contemporary IT landscape is changing rapidly. Business decisions are now being made based on choice, user functionality and innovation. Rackspace, a service leader in Open Cloud computing, is now solving the technology needs of entrepreneurs everywhere.

Recently, Rackspace released their UK Open Cloud product release, which sees unlimited availability of Cloud Databases and Cloud Servers powered by OpenStack, along with a powerful new control panel.

Why is this significant? Well, this is the first time any company has deployed a large-scale open source public cloud computer offering powered by OpenStack.

Along with award winning Fanatical Support, customers can now select from private cloud, public cloud or hybrid cloud offerings and have the flexibility to deploy and test their solutions in a Rackspace data centre, or another data centre of their choice – there really is no vendor lock in.

Hard facts, key features...
Rackspace CEO Lanham Napier has spelled it out. “We are disrupting the current model of how IT is consumed. We’re delivering open, high-performance, scalable and easy-to-use cloud solutions, while empowering customers to choose features, services, prices and locations based on the needs of their business.”

They now offer an expansive open-cloud portfolio that includes Cloud Servers and Cloud Databases, in addition to Cloud Files object storage with a Content Delivery Network (CDN).

Additional elements coming soon to the Rackspace open cloud portfolio include load balancers and monitoring. They will also soon be augmenting these services with block storage capabilities that will be intelligently manageable and completely flexible with the option of advanced storage features for those customers who demand it.

Entrepreneurs have said what they like about Rackspace open cloud products is the seamless delivery they experience. CEO of ScaleXtreme Nand Mulchandani said that, “One of the things we found right away is that it is completely standards-compliant and we didn’t have to make any changes to our OpenStack APIs. Also, the new control panel is much richer, much simpler and a lot faster than the previous version.”

Put simply, the new Cloud Servers powered by OpenStack deliver increased efficiency, scalability and agility to business owners, who can now launch as many as 200 reliable cloud servers in 20 minutes.

To further strengthen their open cloud portfolio, Rackspace are planning to offer general availability of Cloud Networks and Cloud Block Storage this autumn.

We have been inundated with cloud offerings and whilst it is easy to get lost in the mass of offerings, this looks quite interesting and different. I'm going to check this out

most start-ups build from the cloud now - mine did. I only hope that Rackspace can keep up with the latest innovation - tech moves at a rapid pace. They seem pretty good at accelerating through though - I wonder if they're fast/more efficient than some of the other offerings? There's a million out there.
