It’s that ‘back to school’ time of year again and no doubt many of you will be subject to the daily ‘Mum/ Dad, can I use your (work) laptop to do my

homework please?’ routine.  So, how best to keep the nagging to a minimum and their safety (and that of your business) to a maximum?

 

Here are some handy tips to follow:
1. Keep the computer in a common room: This is a bit of social engineering. By keeping everything out in the open, you reduce the chance of activity that might be suspect.
2. Teach your kids that the Internet is forever: What we put online tends to remain there, for anyone to search and find. It's very difficult to remove something that's gone live, so think twice before posting.
3. Remember the 4 P's: Following on the previous tip, teach your kids about the four P's: parents, principals, predators, or the police. Never post anything online that any of those four shouldn't see.
4. Use the most restrictive privacy settings: This applies most strongly to Facebook. Here is a comprehensive list of how to configure a Facebook account for maximum restriction:
