Collaboration and partnership were the keywords Tuesday 12 October, at the launch of Innovate 2010.

presentation1Graham Spittle, Chairman of the Technology Strategy Board, the event organisers, presented a confident prediction of future innovation funding growth as an essential means of further supporting entrepreneurs as the stimulators of the new economy.

The Chairman’s welcoming address, expanded on the exhibition theme of ‘Connect for Growth’, stressing the importance of a culture of collaboration in innovation to enable the UK to ensure global competitiveness in keys sectors and markets.

The event is emphasising four priority areas of sustainability, energy, digital and healthcare; seen by the TSB as areas were developing the right products and solutions will bring major opportunities for UK companies in areas such as low carbon technology, intelligent transport and sustainable agriculture.

David Willetts MP, Minister for Universities and Science, who is delivering the afternoon keynote, is likely to face strong questioning of proposed cuts to government spending on higher education and the sciences. With the Comprehensive Spending Review looming 20 October, Mr Willetts reasserted the government’s commitment to ensuring Britain remains a hub for research, development and innovation announcing 3 competitions totalling £11m in Research and Development funding for healthcare innovation starting January 2011.
