In a UK first, wishgenie, the social gifting platform, allows retailers the opportunity to harness the power of social media networks to drive sales of higher value goods and services.

Through wishgenie, groups of friends and family can now easily club together to buy gifts from a wide selection of well-known retailers, including Debenhams, Very.co.uk, John Lewis and Toys R Us. Once the recipient and desired gift have been chosen, friends decide how much they want to contribute to the gift and encourage others to chip in via their social networks.

At wishgenie users can also create wish lists, allowing them to draw together their dream gifts from a wide range of brands. These wish lists are then shared virally across their social media networks, providing friends with ideas and inspiration on the perfect gift to buy.

Not only will wishgenie drive sales of higher value goods, the social sharing element of the platform provides numerous benefits to retailers, including increased brand visibility and peer-to-peer recommendations, finally allowing retailers to fully harness and measure the benefits of social commerce. Additionally, all retailers have their own page on wishgenie enabling them to target specific demographics with relevant promotional offers or bespoke messages.

Wishgenie is the brainchild of David Berney (pictured right), a technology entrepreneur who has developed and sold businesses across a number of sectors including organic food, mobile, advertising and social media.

David Berney, founder of wishgenie comments: “Wishgenie is the first platform of its kind in the UK, so we truly are offering a unique service to both retailers and consumers. We look forward to witnessing the highly viral results this new platform will bring to each of the 60 retailers we already have in our store.”
