GameGround, the developer of a lightweight personalized gaming app that enhances games and connects players of all types, has raised $5.3 million in a Series B funding round from Sequoia Capital, Softbank Capital, Vodafone Ventures and Novel TMT Ventures.

The company, founded by former executives from Blizzard Entertainment, MTV Networks and 888.com, will focus its investment on building the service and app features to deliver an experience that will fundamentally revolutionize the way players engage with their game lives. Today GameGround unveils the app and service publicly to players in open beta testing on www.gameground.com.

"Gamers want one-click access to their favorite games across platforms, as well as easy ways to find new challenges, leaderboards, and rewards. All of this is made possible by GameGround's innovative offering."

"Softbank has made significant investments in gaming, and we believe that GameGround brings a new level of engagement and interaction to gamers across genres. We're thrilled to be part of executing GameGround's vision," said Ron Fisher, Managing Director of Softbank, who has joined the GameGround Board of Directors.

Itzik Ben-Bassat, ex-Blizzard Entertainment executive and Co-Founder and Chairman of GameGround noted, "Gamers want one-click access to their favorite games across platforms, as well as easy ways to find new challenges, leaderboards, and rewards. All of this is made possible by GameGround's innovative offering."

After downloading the GameGround app, gamers will instantly connect and enrich their entire gaming experience in the games they already play and easily discover new games specific to their personal tastes. At the launch of the open beta, GameGround supports web games, Facebook ® games, PC games, and offers players new missions, rewards, high score incentives and ways to share success amongst friends. GameGround will add support for games on the Xbox 360® videogame and entertainment system in an upcoming release
